Please plan to attend the DNR's spring
Public hearings, to be held on April 8th at 7 pm, in all 72 counties in
Wisconsin and register your opinion on the use of dogs to hunt wolves!
Click
here for hearing information and locations.
A
questionaire will be provided for all attendees to give their opinions on a
variety of topics, but we are most interested in Question 68 on page 41, which
asks: "Would you favor legislation to prohibit the use of
dogs to hunt and training dogs to hunt wolves?"
If you
don't want to stay for the full hearing, please just take a few minutes
to vote YES to Question 68! Let's send a
resounding wake-up call to both DNR and the State Legislature that
the majority of people in Wisconsin FAVOR legislation
such as
SB
93, Sen. Risser's bill to prohibit the use of dogs to hunt
wolves -- which bill is now in the Senate Natural Resources
Committee.
There
is also a series of questions regarding training of dogs to hunt wolves. Though
these are best all left unanswered, questions 49 - 51 can safely
be answered "yes." DO NOT ANSWER #48, as there is no
way to answer it without condoning either unlimited training or the training of
dogs to pursue wolves in the month of March when wolves are breeding/pregnant.
We
would also ask you to vote NO on Question #70 on p. 43, which would expand
hunting in WI State Parks back up to 7 months from 2 months.)

NOTE: a bill has also been
introduced into the State Senate that would remove hunting and trapping in
state parks.
More on SB 17.
For
those of you who would like to become more involved for wildlife in Wisconsin
-- did you realize that ANYONE can run for election as a Wisconsin Conservation
Congress Delegate? The election will be the first item on the hearing agenda,
and would be a great opportunity to get some non-hunter or trapper voices
heard.
