| With the 21 March legislative
approval of ATCP 16, animal health authorities are gearing up to begin the
licensing process. Wisconsin Act 90 takes effect on 1 June 2011.
According to Dr. Yvonne
Bellay, who oversees the new program for the Wisconsin Department of
Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, DATCP has a long list of breeders
and other organizations who have already requested license applications.
Dr.
Bellay says, If you know youll need a license and havent
placed your name on that list, or youre unsure, please call
(608-224-4872) or email us. We can
tell you if youre exempt, or get an application to you if you need it.
Anyone who knows of an operation that should be licensed can also contact us by
phone or email, so we can follow
up.
The
Department began mailing out license application materials about mid-April.
Applicants will receive a temporary license until an inspector can visit their
facilities to be sure they meet the licensing standards. Inspectors will work
with them to correct any shortcomings, and they will then receive a permanent
license if their facilities and animal care meet criteria.
If you
have not received your application for licensing, you can download an
application packet to help you with the process. Click on the link below for
