Dear (Your Representative's Name),

I would like to take this opportunity to express my opinion of SB-308/AB-567. The humane- minded community of this state have waited a long time for this 'promised' legislation. It is deeply frustrating that our patience has been met with such disappointing results. SB-308/AB-567 is not the solution to the neglect, abuse and cruelty being inflicted on the animals that are kept imprisoned in Wisconsin puppy mills.

This legislation, which is being touted as 'Wisconsin Dog Purchaser Protection Act', does not address the heart of the problem. Being void of any effective enforcement, inspections or monitoring, it relies entirely on the honesty of those that have already proven themselves to be dishonest! The same 'breeders' that this legislation is supposed to target are the same ones that have become very adept at 'skirting' the laws, not paying income taxes and misleading the public. Given this 'track record', any logical person would have to question their level of trustworthiness!

Please do not support this bill in any way. The people of Wisconsin deserve a better solution for our request to help our companion animals. I encourage you to look at recent legislation of other states as proof that strong, concise and enforceable laws are taking root and working elsewhere! This issue is even bigger now than it was during the 2003-04 session when AB-536 failed to pass. It is gaining daily momentum among constituents and receiving almost continual media attention. I for one will not be surprised if this becomes a pivotal issue in Wisconsin's next (senate/assembly) elections.

Thank you for your time. I welcome your response.

Sincerely,
