Sample Letter to Legislators, #4

Dear (Your Representative's Name),

Having lived my entire life in Wisconsin, it is truly my home state. With that said, I am thoroughly disgusted that disreputable puppy mills have been allowed to thrive and flourish here for too long.

It was encouraging to hear that Wisconsin state legislators had finally introduced a bill to regulate this industry. But now, after reading SB-308/AB-567, I am more than disappointed as it is quite evident that this bill is NOT a solution for stopping the abuse, neglect and cruelty that defenseless animals are enduring in Wisconsin puppy mills.

Without requiring mandatory inspection before obtaining a license, the only thing this legislation will accomplish is fee revenue for the state. It will remain 'business as usual' for those profiting from this nasty business. This is an industry driven by greed and anything that subtracts from profit, such as improving the living conditions and health care for these animals, is not going to happen unless there are provisions for continuous monitoring and enforcement of standards.

There has been mention that other legislators are also working on this issue and developing a separate bill that might have more promise to truly address the cruelty, suffering and abuse caused in this industry. I hope that you will stand by for a bill that can solve the problem rather than supporting an ineffective placebo.

Thank you for your time. I welcome your response.

Sincerely,
